  • 2 billion unique users
On one end of the spectrum the world is witnessing a decline in the PC market, while at the other the business for smartphones and tablets is growing dramatically. The penetration of smartphones globally has been unprecedented but in the APAC, it has been nothing short of miraculous. To put the growth of smartphone users in APAC into perspective, the number of users has increased from 86 million in 2009 to 1billion in 2015. Apps are an integral part of a smartphone and are the most important reason for someone to buy a smartphone, second only to the benefit of having access to the worldwide web.

“By the end of 2017, 2 Billion app users are expected to be present in the APAC, which would almost be half of the worldwide app users”

APAC will have half the total worldwide APP users

In SEA, smartphone users spend an average of three hours every day on their smartphones. This means that a user spends more time on their smartphone than they do on eating, more than a third of their time looking at a 4 inch screen than sleeping. It is this exponential growth that has led to an acceptance of the Bring Your Own Device culture in organizations. BYOD is expected to double by the end of 2016 from 2013 in India and China. Globally, the BYOD market is expected to hit a quarter of a Trillion USD by 2020. There is a paradigm shift in how people work, spend their free time and perform day to day activities.Smartphone users today spend almost 80% of their time using apps and over 10% of that on utility apps. With the changes in the content consumption patterns and workplace behavior, the HR function is presented with a wonderful opportunity to create another touch point to interface with the employee. By making HR operations mobile through apps and creating touch points across the employee lifecycle, the HR function will not only create higher efficiency and effectiveness, but also empower employees to have a flawless experience.
